RIDING MILL FILM CLUB Fri 9th Feb. The Goldfinch (2019)

This film is an adaptation of Donna Tartt's Pulitzer-winning novel from 2013.

13-year-old Theo Decker visits the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with his mother. They find themselves looking at Carel Fabritius's 1654 painting The Goldfinch, the bird chained to the post - a poignant image of beauty and imprisonment.

At this moment, a terrorist bomb rips through the museum building — a quasi-9/11 outrage without political motive that initiates a tragic chain of events.

The fact that an 800-page novel has been compressed into a 2-hour film means that the viewer has to work hard to piece the story together, given the various flashbacks.

Films start at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm) and the admission charge is (still) £5
